3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can control their whole bodies. 4 Also a ship is very big, and it is pushed by strong winds. But a very small rudder controls that big ship, making it go wherever the pilot wants. 5 It is the same with the tongue. It is a small part of the body, but it brags about great things.
A big forest fire can be started with only a little flame. 6 And the tongue is like a fire. It is a whole world of evil among the parts of our bodies. The tongue spreads its evil through the whole body. The tongue is set on fire by hell, and it starts a fire that influences all of life. 7 People can tame every kind of wild animal, bird, reptile, and fish, and they have tamed them, 8 but no one can tame the tongue. It is wild and evil and full of deadly poison. 9 We use our tongues to praise our Lord and Father, but then we curse people, whom God made like himself. 10 Praises and curses come from the same mouth! My brothers and sisters, this should not happen. 11 Do good and bad water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree make olives, or can a grapevine make figs? No! And a well full of salty water cannot give good water.”
Where do you want to go? Your tongue controls the words you speak and If we want to be girls who spread light and truth we need to think in the way of light and truth. So what does that look like for you? It could simply be doing your dishes in the morning in order to help your parents out, It could be taking five minutes extra to listen to that one friend who just won’t stop moaning. Whatever it is, I know God will place it on your heart today and I hope you have the courage to fulfil it!
In verse four it speaks of the small rudder which controls a ship, something that small decides the path of the entire ship, controlling its movements and where it ends up after this journey.
If we long to see beautiful girls saved we need to control are words, be slow in anger and and continually speak the truth over their lives.
TRUST ME when I say I know that’s rough. I struggle with constantly speaking truth when all I want to do is scream. That’s when (I try my best) to allow the words of God to speak into my heart and calm my anger.
Sometimes I fail (lets not lie I do that a lot) and I have to know when enough is enough and I need to apologise, there is great healing in admitting you are wrong and setting up at the start line once more.
In verse 6 it carries on explaining how the tongue is a little spark in a humongous fire, What if we change that spark to truth, hope, love, peace and courage. What if we ignited each little corner of our world with Gods heart.
Think of the fire we could make, and the lives we could see transformed by the father! How amazing!
I pray each one of you lean on your father a little more today and know that out of his strength you can tame your tongue and turn evil to glory!
Have a lovely day x
