James 4 v 1 – 10
Do you know where your fights and arguments come from? They come from the selfish desires that war within you. 2 You want things, but you do not have them. So you are ready to kill and are jealous of other people, but you still cannot get what you want. So you argue and fight. You do not get what you want, because you do not ask God. 3 Or when you ask, you do not receive because the reason you ask is wrong. You want things so you can use them for your own pleasures.
4 So, you are not loyal to God! You should know that loving the world is the same as hating God. Anyone who wants to be a friend of the world becomes God’s enemy. 5 Do you think the Scripture means nothing that says, “The Spirit that God made to live in us wants us for himself alone”? 6 But God gives us even more grace, as the Scripture says,
“God is against the proud,
but he gives grace to the humble.” Proverbs 3:34
7 So give yourselves completely to God. Stand against the devil, and the devil will run from you. 8 Come near to God, and God will come near to you. You sinners, clean sin out of your lives. You who are trying to follow God and the world at the same time, make your thinking pure. 9 Be sad, cry, and weep! Change your laughter into crying and your joy into sadness. 10 Humble yourself in the Lord’s presence, and he will honour you.
We all want stuff. Lets be honest. Its nearly Christmas and if you are anything like me your list is as long as your leg! But stuff never satisfies, it gives us the initial Christmas buzz but then within time the feelings we once had begins to dwindle. If we ask ourselves honestly all we want is happiness, true happiness, that does not come in the shape of presents or perfection, but in the shape of a baby.
This world has nothing to offer. I can freely stand and say that as a person who has tried the world and never been satisfied. The truth of God is the only thing that will ever make you content. The hope of God is the only thing that will keep you going and the strength of God is the only thing that will keep you brave. For this world is full of evil, that tries to tell you, you can never have too much, never be to slim or too perfect, but darling there is no such thing. Gods grace is enough. Gods grace is enough. It is all you will ever need, I promise.
We are all aware of the Christmas story, but do we honestly realise the gift we have freely been given. God sent his one and only heavenly son, so that we could be connected to the father. Could you imagine what it would be like to send your favourite person to an awful world filled with pain, anger and hurt, to know that one day he was going to die, for people who would mock him. For people who would shame him, hate him, and deny him.
For broken lives, but this is the beauty, when new life in the shape of a baby entered this world, we got a second chance, and a third and a fourth. Countless times we have been forgiven. Countless prayers he has answered and this baby was only the beginning of Gods beautiful plan, for his broken yet beautiful people.
John 3 v 16- “God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life”
