To The Very End

And so we get to the end of matthew. This beautiful story of how Jesus rose to life and how he sends us out. Then there’s this line;

‘Surely I am with you always to the very end of the age’.

It just makes you take a big breath out doesn’t it. He is with us. He is Emmanuel. To the very end of the age. Time and time again Jesus has promised me that he is with me to the end but time and time again I forget and am baffled by his incredible faithfulness. My brain goes something like this “Jesus is that you, are you seriously still here, I’m such a mess & all I want is chocolate. I feel so alone but I know you are still with me. You’re a babe”

See it doesn’t say this but I’m pretty sure the disciples were a complete mess. After all the messiah had just died. Jesus had told them- he had painted a picture of what his final days would be like. Peter denied Jesus, Judas hang himself. The other guys might have gone back to their old life, maybe not? We don’t know.

Then something beautiful happens God shows up. He goes to them. He enters in to their world. He says meet me here. Half way. I am alive. Do you believe me? And it says some held back from worshipping him, worried they would risk it all. But Jesus saw there mess just as he see’s ours and goes right I got this. Let’s do this thing and he encourages them loves on them and finally gives the commandment to go.

Side note: But this is so important he first loves on them. You are a service ship for Jesus yes. But he never calls you to be a rusty service ship for him. You are a service ship that has received full TLC, plus a double portion of love. You may not look like it but you are.

Go and do. Know that you are loved, know I am faithful, honour me in what you do. But don’t stay here living in the past of all the miracles I’ve done. Go do you. Go do you and God and see what incredible things happen because although their faith was so little he “undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: “God authorised and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20 MSG

God is so good. Pray for someone today, out loud. If God opens the door go for it, I’m cheering you on x
